Cyndi Munson for House Speaker
The Oklahoma Constitution requires the legislature to meet on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in January of odd numbered years. This is a day set aside for the legislature to “organize” itself. We certify votes. We elect leaders. And we vote on the rules that we will (mostly) use to govern the work we do. I say mostly, because a party with a supermajority can suspend the rules at any time.
This year, Oklahoma House Democrats proposed Rep. Cyndi Munson, the Democratic Caucus Leader for the Oklahoma House, to serve as Speaker. I had the distinct honor and privilege to provide one of her two nominating speeches.
Here are my remarks.
